Arm Bar Submission from Full Guard - Video

The arm bar, or arm lock, from guard, is a basic Brazilian Jiu Jitsu submission. There are other positions where arm bars and arm locks are possible. The arm bar video below will show you the BJJ arm lock technique from the full guard. You can use this technique to get your hips warmed up, and drill this move to increase your speed and accuracy for the arm bar submission.

The Basics - Jiu Jitsu Techniques, Positions, and Moves

Below is a compiled list of some Brazilian Jiu Jitsu moves, techniques, and positions. Even just learning basic terminology can be helpful when training, so that you do not get lost when your instructor is talking. Aside from the heavy Brazilian accents they might have, it can be difficult to follow along with all of the jiu jistu lingo. Even some of the simple BJJ positions and moves may have several nicknames that others fighters have never heard of!

Pan Ams 2010 IBJJF Tournament - Results

The 2010 IBJJF Pan Ams Tournament took place in the Bren Center at the University of California, in Irvine, California.  The weekend was filled with beautiful jiu jitsu submissions, sweeps, arm bars and more. This IBJJF tournament made a change in venues this year, after a record breaking number of attendees came out to compete and watch the 2009 Pan Ams.

NAGA New England Tournament Results 2010

Check out the results list from the Naga tournament this past weekend in Lincoln, Rhode Island at the Twin River Casino. There was a great mix of experienced wrestlers, jiu jitsu, and mma students. Hoping to see more women competitors next time around. Come on ladies, represent! 

What is Jiu Jitsu?

With the rise of mixed martial arts, and MMA organizations such as the UFC, Strikeforce, and others...the buzz is going around about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu skills that many Brazilian MMA fighters are bringing to the ring. What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu? And can American wrestlers compete with the submission skills of BJJ fighters? Even among other fighting disciplines, like muay thai, karate, or boxing, the importance of ground fighting cannot be ignored.

But for many serious BJJ students, Jiu Jitsu is not all about MMA fighting. Quite the contrary, many of these students are focused on the art of Jiu Jitsu alone, and it is controversially one of the most difficult martial arts disciplines to master. Traps, sweeps, submissions, take-downs, and a combinations of techniques that take years of focus and discipline to master. This is all a part of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Join me on my Jiu Jitsu jaunt, as we take on this adventure from beginning to end, (hopefully an end that will lead us to a black belt in Jiu Jitsu!). We will discuss the trials and tribulations of training on the mat, give tips and advise (and we will be opening to hearing yours too!), show some of the best BJJ moves, preparing for bjj tournaments and competitions, dieting and cutting weight, and more!
